Residents at a care home in Cheadle have embraced the magic of storytelling during a special intergenerational activity with a local school.
Care UK’s Abney Court, at Abney Hall Park on Manchester Road, welcomed pupils from Lady Barn House School for a poetry session.
The young children sat with the residents as they read aloud poems they had written. Once finished, they presented residents with a special book containing all their creations, providing a special keepsake for the home.
After the activity, everyone got to know each other over a host of tasty snacks.
Resident Dorothy Berry, aged 99, said: said: “I really enjoyed spending time with the children. As a former head-teacher, I recognise the importance of stories and letting the children’s imagination run wild!”
Zoe Smart, Home Manager at Abney Court, said: “We loved welcoming the pupils from Lady Barn House School to take part in this special activity. The children’s poems were inspirational and they filled the room with creativity, confidence and smiles all round.
“Intergenerational relationships have proven to be highly beneficial for all involved, as they offer residents a form of companionship and a stronger sense of purpose. The activity was a lovely opportunity for residents to share their favourite stories and poems with the younger generation.
“A huge thank you to the pupils for demonstrating their talent and bringing joy to everyone’s day. We look forward to seeing them again soon.”
