Cheadle Hulme United Reformed Church was built in 1979, but has a history dating back to the late 1860s. It was original a Congregational church, built by Congregationalists who wanted their own church. In May 1868 plans for a church and school to be built went under way, and the school was opened a year later. For a year or so, services had to be held in the schoolroom while the church was being built. The church came into use on 7 July 1870. One of the church's most prominent features was its spire.

Unfortunately, the church burned down following an arson attack on 28 December 1977, so a new church was built and opened in 1979, and it became the United Reformed Church.
