Turves Road
From Site
Turves Road is a long and busy mostly residential road, that connects Cheadle Hulme to Heald Green. Originally known as Turf Lane or Turves Lane, it is mostly made up of houses, though there are a few shops, the fire station, The Ryecroft Arms pub, and Emmanuel Church at the Heald Green end.
Until the 1950s, it finished as a dead-end close to where the A34 bypass runs under the bridge, and took a slightly different route before being straightened. Etchells Road was built in 1956, connecting Cheadle Hulme to Heald Green.
