The Kings Hall has served a variety of purposes over the years. It was built by a local estate agent, F W Allen, in 1937, in honour of King George VI's coronation that year. It was originally a dance hall, with a stage and orchestra pit. It is not the sort of building that would exist nowadays, but it soon became popular. During the second world war, it was also used for Catholic mass, as it was too difficult to travel to Cheadle during that period, where the closest Catholic church was (seven years after the war ended, St Ann's Church was built to serve this purpose). Additionally, plays were held in the hall as it was a well-suited venue for them. In 1958, it became known as the "Picador Dancing Club", just in time for the 1960s! Later on it became a restaurant, and in 1998, Wetherspoons took over ownership and it became a pub.
