Cheadle Moseley is what Cheadle Hulme was known as until the 19th century, though this name was still used on various documents in the early 20th century. When the estate was purchased by the Moseley family in the 17th century, it had been known as "Chedle-Holme", and the Moseleys named their new estate after themselves. The Moseley family held the estate for fewer than 100 years, yet the name stuck for more than 100 years after they had left.
