Cheadle Hulme Library is located on Mellor Road. It is reputed to be Stockport's second busiest library, after Central Library in Stockport, despite being situated on a quiet side street in a single storey building.

It was opened on 28 March 1936 by councillor Alexander Whitehall, and was built at a cost of just £936 (about £45,600 today). Since late in the previous decade, a library service had existed on Mellor Road, but it was soon decided a public service would be more appropriate.

It has always been a popular library: extensions were required in 1963 and 1970, adding a junior section and various other rooms. There were plans in 1974 for a two-storey block extension, but this was not approved as it would have led to an "office block" appearance, which was apparently undesirable at the time.

Today the library provides numerous services in addition to lending books. There is free internet and use of computers (though printing costs), newspapers and local information. There are also coffee mornings and activities for children held each week.
