Bruntwood Hall is an imposing Gothic building, constructed in 1861. Bruntwood is named after a village in Ayrshire in Scotland, and was so-named by its first owner, John Douglas. Over the years Bruntwood had several owners, including several industrialists. In the 1940s, its grounds were opened to the public, and became Bruntwood Park. In 1944 the hall became the offices of Cheadle and Gatley council (effectively the town hall), and they remained there until 1959. The hall remains in use by a private company, and is unfortunately not open to the public.
