Ack Lane West
From Site
Ack Lane West is a long residential road which stretches from Church Road and Ravenoak Road in central Cheadle Hulme towards Bramhall, where it becomes Ack Lane East. It is thought to be named after a Saxon landowner named Hacon. It is one of the oldest roads in the area, with buildings on it dating from the 18th century.

This is taken from a postcard and dates from around 1905. To the left is Church Road – notice the old street sign on the corner. There are two people on the left side, possibly a mother and daughter, and a man riding a bicycle on the right side. Near the centre is a horse and cart, and to the right is the Church Inn. |

This was taken on 21 June 2009. Even on a Sunday this junction is a fairly busy one. In this image you can see Church Road off to the left, newer buildings on the left of the Church Inn, cars and a double-decker bus, Ravenoak Road in the background, and on the right, the entrance to The Governor's House pub. Try comparing this image to the first one. |
